“You’re qualified,” she said, closing my résumé.

“Good to hear.”

“But I hire based on composure.”

She walked around the desk and sat on its edge in front of me — close enough that it changed the air.

“How do you handle temptation during high-stakes situations?” she asked.

“I stay focused.”

“Demonstrate.”

“On what?”

Her heel slid slowly against my shoe.

“Pressure,” she said quietly.

“Realistic pressure.”
