I went back for my laptop after everyone left. The lights were low, the hallway silent — except for one room still glowing.
She was inside, heels off, leaning over the table reading notes.
“You work late,” she said without looking up.
“So do you.”
“Difference is,” she smiled, finally meeting my eyes, “I planned to be alone.”
I turned to leave. The door clicked shut behind me.
“Relax,” she said softly. “If I wanted you gone, I wouldn’t have locked it.”
She walked closer, slow, measured, confident — like she’d rehearsed the distance.
“You’re very controlled during meetings,” she said.
“I’ve been wondering what breaks that.”
Her finger hooked lightly into my tie and tugged — just enough to test whether I’d resist.
I didn’t.
She noticed.
“Good,” she whispered. “That makes the next part more interesting.”
