The Dance Instructor Wouldn’t Let Me Leave

“I don’t let beginners quit early,” she said.

“It’s past closing time.”

“Exactly.”

The studio lights dimmed to practice mode — low and gold.

She stepped behind me, adjusting my posture — slowly, deliberately.

“Dancing,” she whispered near my ear,
“is mostly tension… and controlled release.”

Her hands didn’t move away.
